Forklift rental pricing is simple once you know the three levers: capacity and fuel type (what machine you need), duration (day, week, or 4 weeks), and delivery (how far we are hauling it). Below are our standard 2026 rates, followed by what moves the number and when renting beats buying.

Forklift rental rates by class

These are our standard 2026 rates for each class, from the smallest to the largest size we rent. Delivery, damage waiver, tax, and any fees are quoted separately.

Forklift class Day Week 4 Weeks
Electric, 3,000–8,000 lb (indoor warehouse) $165–$296 $428–$743 $1,199–$1,905
LP cushion, 3,000–15,500 lb (indoor/dock) $185–$462 $380–$1,373 $1,057–$3,672
LP or diesel pneumatic, 3,000–15,500 lb (yard) $196–$423 $403–$1,618 $1,091–$4,040
Large diesel pneumatic, 22,000–31,000 lb $888–$1,107 $2,660–$3,316 $6,645–$8,277
Stand-up reach truck $193 $574 $1,592
Electric pallet jack / walkie stacker $150–$196 $322–$372 $697–$824

What drives the price

  • Capacity and lift height. A 5,000 lb warehouse truck is the baseline. Higher capacity and a quad mast cost more.
  • Fuel and tire type. Electric cushion is usually cheapest, LP and diesel pneumatic cost more, and specialty units are higher again.
  • Duration. The weekly rate is about two and a half to three times the daily, and the 4-week rate is about three times the weekly. Match the term to the job.
  • Hours of use. Rates assume single-shift use: up to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Multi-shift or extended-hours use is priced higher.
  • Delivery and pickup. Quoted by distance, both directions. A closer job costs less to deliver.
  • Attachments. Side shifters, fork positioners, clamps, and booms add to the rate.
  • Damage waiver, taxes, and fees. Optional waiver plus taxes and any environmental or fuel fees, all shown on your quote.

Day, week, or 4 weeks: which to pick

Rent by the day for a one- or two-day task, by the week once you are past about three days, and on the 4-week rate once you are past about three weeks. Because the 4-week rate costs about the same as three weeks, a month-long job almost always costs less on the 4-week rate than on separate weeks. When in doubt, tell the rental desk how long you need it and ask which term is cheaper.

Rent or buy? The 200-day rule

A good rule of thumb: if you will use a forklift more than about 200 days a year, buying or leasing usually wins on cost. Below that, renting is the smarter money. Rent when you have a short project, a seasonal peak, a new line that has not proven out yet, or a unit down for service. You avoid the capital outlay, the maintenance, and the depreciation, and you can return the machine the day the job ends.

What is included

The rental is equipment only. It arrives service-checked and ready to run, and we walk your team through startup on delivery. Operators are not included, and your team should be trained and certified for the machine. If you need training, we can point you in the right direction.

FAQs

How much does it cost to rent a forklift for a day?

A standard 5,000 lb warehouse forklift is $183 a day electric, $196 a day LP cushion, or $208 a day LP pneumatic. Larger diesel units and specialty machines cost more. A day rental also carries delivery and pickup, so a job of three days or more is usually cheaper on the weekly rate.

How much is a forklift rental per week?

Plan on $380 to $553 a week for a common 3,000 to 6,000 lb forklift, with the exact rate set by capacity, fuel type, and tire type. The weekly rate is about two and a half to three times the daily, so a week costs far less than five separate days.

How much does it cost to rent a forklift for 4 weeks?

A common 3,000 to 6,000 lb forklift runs $1,057 to $1,592 for 4 weeks. The 4-week rate is about three times the weekly, so if you need the machine for more than about three weeks, ask for the 4-week rate.

Is delivery included in the forklift rental price?

No. Delivery and pickup are quoted separately based on distance, and they are shown as line items on your quote rather than hidden in the headline rate. Ask for the delivered price so you can compare fairly.

What else gets added to the rental rate?

An optional damage waiver, taxes, and any environmental or fuel fees. We show each of these on your exact quote. The rental itself is equipment only, with no operator included.

What if we run more than one shift?

Our standard rates are based on single-shift use, up to 8 hours a day and 5 days a week. Running two or three shifts, or more hours than that, is priced higher. Tell the rental desk your schedule and they will quote the right rate.

Is it cheaper to rent or buy a forklift?

Rent when you will use the forklift fewer than about 200 days a year, for a short project, a seasonal peak, or a unit that is down for service. Buy or lease when utilization is high and steady. The 200-day mark is the rough break-even for most facilities.

Do I need insurance to rent a forklift?

Most rentals require proof of general liability insurance, and you can add a damage waiver to cover the machine itself. The rental desk will tell you exactly what is needed when you request a quote.

Does the price change for electric versus diesel forklifts?

Yes. Electric cushion warehouse forklifts are usually the least expensive to rent, LP and diesel pneumatic yard trucks cost more, and specialty and high-capacity machines are higher still.

Can I rent a forklift for just a few hours?

Rentals are priced by the day, week, or 4 weeks rather than by the hour. For a very short job, a one-day rental plus delivery is the smallest option, and the rental desk can help you decide whether a day or a week is the better value.

How fast can I get a rented forklift delivered?

Same-day or next-day where equipment and transport are available in our branch metros, and typically next-day in the longer-haul delivery areas. The rental desk confirms availability and a delivery window on your quote.
